AI is becoming the new literacy

Artificial intelligence is already impacting nearly all areas of life today — from healthcare and industry to public services and everyday business operations. Ingrid Pappel, who will begin her role as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) in August, believes that AI will become a general skill in the coming years — comparable to a new form of literacy.

“The role of artificial intelligence is no longer limited to IT. It already influences planning, service design, decision-making, and user experience across the board — in the public sector, industry, and business,” says Pappel. That’s why curriculum development must move in the direction where AI is integrated into education across all fields — from social sciences and management to engineering and law.
